its been 3 weeks. Havent had time to update my blog because I was busy at the Niners game these past two sundays. This week the Niners were on the road in Cincy, but they won tho.

This song brings me back to my bboy days. Probably the first song that i heard with the term "doggystyle". Four, tres, two, uno!

Song sampled many times in the hip hop game. Most notably for Worst come to Worst by Dilated Peoples
The Fugees - Ready or Not
Enya Sample. Five Mic album from the Fugees. I remember when I loved in Queens in 96. This album was the biggest thing out. Happy that I experienced NYC life during the golden-age of hip hop.
Too Short - I Want To Be Free
Old School Oakland mob shit. Too Short will always be a legend in the game. Old school funk samples on this one. Check out the Too Short documentary. Its pretty dope.

5 Shuffle - Volume 5
Its Sunday again so I guess it's time to shuffle my iPod and see what comes on.
First song is...
Donell Jones ft. Left Eye - U Know What's Up
Rest in Peace to Left Eye from TLC. This was the first single off the "Where I Wanna Be" LP. In my opinion, "Where I Wanna Be" is the most slept on R&B album of all time! In my book, it may even be the greatest R&B album ever!!!!
Stevie Wonder - Knocks Me off My Feet
It's funny how this song comes on next and it was covered by Donell Jones. This song is timeless. One of my favorite Stevie songs. "We lay beneath the stars, under a lover's tree that's seen through the eyes of my mind"
Gap Band - Outstanding
Another Soul classic right here. This one gets the oldschool funk parties goin. Charlie Wilson has an incredible voice. "You Blow My Mind, Baby"
De La Soul - Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)
Classic Hip Hop from De La. Off the De La Soul is Dead LP. I remember wanting to put the hook to this on my answering machine as a kid.
Shawty Lo - They Know
I'm not really a big fan of this south sound but this track always slapped to me. Maybe it's the sample, or the catchy hook? "Big Ups, all my haters"

Boyz II Men - Let it Whip
This is a cover of the old school funk band Dazz Band. I'm not a big fan of covers but this one is ok. I totally forgot that I put this album in my iPod. A couple years back Boyz II Men put a whole album out of cover songs. I guess they ran out of their own material.
Norman Conners - Invitation
I love this song. You might recognize it if you've seen that movie Brown Sugar starring Saana Lathan, Taye Diggs, and Mos Def. This song was sampled for Mos Def's song Brown Sugar.
Tech N9ne - Party like a Rockstar
Tech shits on the shop boyz version. Straight up bodies this beat! I never liked the original version of this song.
E-40 - My Shit Bang
Some of that good ol bay area slap right here. No matter how old 40 is he always comes thru....shittin on these youngsters in the rap game.
Aerosmith - Angel
I listen to a little bit of everything. Old school rock and roll ballad. I didnt know this was on my iPod.

Shuffle 5 on the iPod
My daughter used to do this on her blog. She would listen to 5 songs on her iPod, shuffle 'em and then blog about 'em. So I decided to take a page out of her blogging book.

Boogie Down Productions - Love's Gonna Get You
Early 90's Hip Hop. Maybe Krs One's best storytelling track that paints a vivid picture of the struggle and hustle in the streets.
Mos Def - 24 Hour Karate School
In this track Mos Def keeps it hip hop with the Old School funk breakbeat. "Rap Bruce Leroy"
Human League - Don't You Want Me
Yes, this song is in my iPod. Sometimes you feel the need to listen to this euro new-wave stuff. This song goes well at the cocaine parties! hahaha.
James Brown - The Boss
This song is funky as fu*k. Off one of my favorite soundtracks! James Brown's Black Caesar.
Souls of Mischief - That's When Ya Lost
Coming up as an MC in the early 90's I looked up to the Hieroglyphics Crew. In the bay area we were flooded with local mob artists such as Too Short, E40, Mac Dre etc. It was a breath of fresh air to have a hip hop crew like Souls of Mischeif to come from the same hood as these other rappers. Hiero yall!!!
